By reading historical and contemporary plans, morphological structures and spatial figures of Vienna’s city center are traced. The Schwarzplan, the Nolli Plan, the analysis of negative spaces, and models serve as methodological tools to visualize spatial relationships and potential for change. Building on this, spatial sequences, proportions, and transitions in urban space are redefined through design interventions. The focus is on the question of what spatial effects a change in the figure-ground relationship has.
The investigation continues in the transition from urban space to interior space. Using a selected building, architectural spatial figures are analyzed, reassembled, and considered in relation to public space. The study examines how this relationship can be made visible and tangible through precise spatial settings and how coherence between urban structure and architectural spatial sequence can be created. The results are presented in drawings and models.
